GA Cable Association Seeking Executive Director

The Georgia Cable Association has been the voice of the cable broadband industry at the General Assembly and with state regulatory agencies for over 45 years. The association coordinates industry initiatives on policy and other matters that impact our members’ ability to serve Georgia consumers and compete in a communications marketplace that is experiencing change at an accelerated pace.

The Association is searching for a new Executive Director. This individual will work collaboratively under the direction of the GCA’s Board of Directors and membership to lead the organization, provide strategic guidance to its members and serve as the public “face” of the industry for policy makers, the media and the general public.

Responsibilities include:

Government/Regulatory Affairs

  • Building relationships with state elected officials and other members of state government
  • Educating state and local elected officials and other policy makers on issues affecting the industry.
  • Identifying and monitoring state and local legislation & regulatory action impacting the industry; providing analysis of such legislation/action to member companies and working with them to educate and engage effectively representing the industry’s policy positions.
  • Supporting and leading a team of member-company government affairs professionals and consultants to obtain optimum results from the legislative session and/or a state regulatory action.
  • Representing GCA and working with third parties to influence policy makers. 
  • Managing internal meetings/calls regarding legislative and regulatory matters
  • Testifying before legislative committees and state agencies.
  • Planning and executing legislative policy conferences focused on industry-related policies

 Association Management

  • Guiding the board of directors through the association’s strategic planning process and implementing the strategic plan throughout the year.
  • Maintaining excellent relationships with board members through open and consistent communications.
  • Managing support staff and consultants to maximize their value to the organization.
  • Ensuring the association stays on sound financial footing by crafting an annual budget for board approval and managing expenses to the budget.
  • Keeping the books and records of the organization in proper order and in compliance with all laws and regulations.


  • Drafting weekly Legislative Reports for association members during the Legislative Session.
  • Producing monthly e-newsletter that educates thought leaders and decision makers in state and local government on the industry and its issues.
  • Creating a quarterly e-newsletter that informs board members and other industry and business leaders about issues in the state and any associated engagement from the association.
  • Maintaining the association webpage, including developing content for publication.
  • Establishing a social media presence for the association.


  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; law-degree or Masters of Public Administration preferred.
  • Minimum of five to seven years management experience, preferably in an association.
  • A demonstrated understanding of state government and regulatory affairs, preferably the Georgia General Assembly and associated state agencies.
  • Previous advocacy experience before regulatory and/or legislative bodies.
  • Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills including demonstrated skills in negotiating issues in support of corporate goals and objectives.
  • Experience in the cable/telecommunications sector is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with members and Board of Directors.
  • Willingness to travel in and out of state to cover industry, legislative and regulatory meetings.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as necessary.
